PROGRAM:
35,000 sq.ft. Villa with multiple levels set on a terraced hillside in a 22 acre plot overlooking the Arabian Sea in Alibag. The villa has secondary facilities such as a 15,000 sq.ft. Heliport and a 12,000 sq.ft. Garage for vintage cars. The project entailed the complete landscape, interiors and exterior finishing of the project along with full MEP system design and integration within a challenging site.
CONCEPT:
Taking advantage of the beautiful coastal environment and the amazing views from the hillside location were the primary concern. The mandated a classical design vocabulary with simplicity and practicality as guiding principals. Each room was to have extensive connections with outdoor terraces or decks that would be partially shaded or open to sky. Circulation within the sprawling residence at multiple levels was a challenge and creating a cohesive and engaging environment was a key concept; this was achieved through technology (escalators and lighting), artwork and a dynamic engagement with landscape.
MATERIALS:
The material palette consisted to marble floors, wooden ceilings and stone or wood cladding. The material finishes in the various rooms played off the main theme with variations based on the desired level of light/reflectivity, acoustics, warmth and texture.
